Urinary Tract Infection – Symptoms, Reasons and Treatment

Also known as UTI, urinary tract infection is an infection in the urinary system that can occur in kidneys, ureters, bladder or urethra. Though the infection in every part is risky, the most dangerous one is in the lower urinary tract that is the bladder and the urethra. This is caused by the bacteria that gets entry into the urinary tract. Females are at more risk of getting this problem due to their urinary tract design, but that doesn’t mean men don’t get the problem.

Types of Urinary Tract Infection

There are two types of urinary tract infections: the lower tract which occurs in the lower urinary tract and is also called a bladder infection. The second one is the upper urinary tract infection that attacks kidney and ureters. To get the right treatment of upper urinary tract infections, patients need to visit an experienced kidney specialist.

Symptoms of UTI

Having knowledge of the symptoms help you timely detect the problem and consult a doctor for the treatment.

Lower UTI symptoms:

  • Frequent visit to washroom to pass urine
  • Burning sensation while urinating
  • Feeling pressure in the lower abdomen
  • Blood spots in urine

Upper UTI symptoms

  • Fever with chills
  • Nausea with vomiting
  • Back pain majorly in the upper sides and waist

Causes of UTI

Sexual intercourse

A man can get this infection from a woman having multiple sex partners or has frequent intercourse.

Controlling the urine

Waiting too long to pass urine can force your bladder to stretch its muscles, which in long run weakens them. Over time, the muscles get so weak that it doesn’t pass all the urine that increases the risk of UTI.

Kidney stones

Stones in the kidney block the free flow of urine and over time become a reason for urinary tract infection.

Urethral stenosis

This is basically narrowing of the urethra that blocks the easy flow of urination. This can either be by birth or can be due to some medical conditions.

Don’t ignore any symptom of UTI. If you feel that the problem is getting serious, immediately book an appointment with an experienced and reliable urologist near you in your area.
