What are the symptoms of UTIs and the best ways to prevent them?

Urinary Tract Infection commonly known as UTIs are much more common in women. A urinary tract comprises the bladder, urethra, ureter and kidneys. The infection enters your body through the urethra and can travel to the bladder. If left unattended or if there is a delay in treatment, the infection can affect the kidney, travelling through the ureter. Urinary Infections are of two types- upper urinary tract infection and lower urinary tract infection. Kidneys and the ureter fall under the upper urinary tract whereas the lower urinary tract is made up of the urethra and the bladder. Since the infection travels from the urethra and mover upwards, the lower urinary tract is more prone to infections. Lower urinary tract infections also known as bladder infections are uncomplicated UTIs however if the infection reaches the kidney and the ureter, the infection can be termed as a complicated UTI.
